Sunday Coupon Preview 11/27

Need to know how many papers to buy on Sunday?  Click HERE to get a detailed list of what coupons will be in each insert.  There will only be 1 P&G insert this Sunday.  I thought that since it was a Holiday wknd there would not be any coupons but apparently there will be a P&G insert tomorrow.  I will confirm this early tomorrow morning when I get my newspaper delivery...

*** UPDATE:  There is a thin P&G insert in Sunday's paper.  There are also MFQs for diapers in a diaper ad from Walmart.

Cooking with Thanksgiving Leftovers

If your family celebrates Thanksgiving anything like my family does I'm sure you have leftovers coming out of your ears!  Here are some great recipes for using all those leftovers...

http://cheaphealthygood.blogspot.com/ - 38 Different Recipes!
Dad's Famous Fried Turkey Sandwiches - My favorite!
Homemade Turkey Stock - Save your carcass/bones and make my homemade stock
Lightened Loaded Baked Potato Soup - on my meal plan this wk (use your LO potatoes)

Dad's Famous Fried Turkey Sandwiches

Here's one of my family's favorite recipes for Thanksgiving leftovers.  The turkey soaks up all the butter and has an incredible flavor and texture.  Simple, inexpensive, and kid friendly!

Ingredients:
1/3 cup leftover turkey shredded (per sandwich)
1/2 TBS - 1 TBS butter (per sandwich)
Sandwich Bread
Mayo

1.  Heat butter in non stick pan on med heat until completely melted

2.  While butter is melting shred turkey into small pieces

3.  Added shredded turkey to pan with butter and fry until golden and crispy

4.  Put turkey on bread, add mayo and any other toppings

Free CoverGirl at Family Dollar!!!

23 CoverGirl Nail Products FREE!!!

Family Dollar has advertised CoverGirl Queen nail products for $1 each this wk.  The nail products include nail clippers, toe nail clippers, cuticle trimmers, nail files, and emery boards.  Great idea for stocking stuffers!!!  My 6 separate transactions looked like this...These are P&G Qs that only allow 4 per "shopping trip" or "transaction" if they will allow it.

(4) CoverGirl Nail Care - $1 each
Used (4) $1/1 Q from 10/16 P&G or 10/30 P&G

Total - FREE!!!

***HEADS UP:  My coupons beeped and did not scan at first.  The cashier looked them over and agreed that they were valid on ANY one CoverGirl product.  He had to manually scan each one!!!  Bless his heart!  It may not beep if you scan each item and THEN scan the corresponding coupon instead.

How to Write a "Budget" Grocery List

This is a sample of how I make my grocery list to stay on budget

The night before or morning of my shopping trip each wk I write out my list.  I usually sit down with my weekly circulars, coupon binder, and online blogs to decide what I need for the week and what my meal plan will be.  I usually start by writing down each store I will be shopping at and the items I plan on purchasing there.  I divide my page into sections :

1)  What I NEED for my meal plan
2)  What is on sale/stock up prices or price matching (Walmart/Target)
3)  Other (stuff I need like envelopes, milk, bread - reg priced stuff)
4)  Any overage I can apply to my total if applicable and free items I can get with coupons

I always write down any coupons I will be using next to the items.  I put the estimated prices in the margin of my paper and I ALWAYS round ALL my prices/totals.  At the very bottom of my list I put my final estimated total AND "potential" total if overage is applied.  I like to know both totals, just in case your "overage scenario" doesn't work as planned.  Be prepared either way and don't "depend" on overage!!!  I ALWAYS stick to my list and RARELY deviate from it.  Here's what it typically looks like...

WALMART

Meal Plan :

$1      Penne Pasta ($2 - $1/1 Q = $1)
.60     Canned Tomatoes
$1.50 Fresh French Bread
$3      Bagged Salad

Tip # 5 - Saving at Ethnic Markets

Last week, as part of my "Thrifty Tip Thursday" post (HERE) I mentioned about saving on your grocery budget by using local ethnic markets.  Well today I got a local circular from a Hispanic market proving this theory...
If you live in the DFW area (also in Austin and other areas in TX) there is a store called "El Rancho SuperMercado" and it's newest location is off of North Beach Street in Fort Worth.  Click the link HERE to see their locations and weekly ad.  This would also be a great store to price match at Walmart!  Here are some advertised sales that stood out to me...

Thrifty Tip Thursday

Cooking

Tip #1 - Faux San Marzano Tomatoes
These are very expensive canned tomatoes imported from Italy that are known for their fabulously sweet flavor.  Save yourself some $$$ by purchasing less expensive canned tomatoes on sale and drizzle them with a little bit of rice vinegar.  The taste is comparable and will keep your wallet happy.

Tip #2 - Air Curing Steaks
Dry-aged steaks are available at the nicest restaurants in the world.  Keep your cash and stay at home by using this frugal tip instead.  The day you plan to cook your steaks unwrap them and place them on a plate.  Sprinkle a small amount of salt on each steak and place in the fridge uncovered for up to 4 hrs.  When you are ready to cook, let the steaks come to room temp.  Great restaurant flavor for the cost of salt!!!

Tip #3 - Use Stale Bread
Don't throw away stale bread or bread crusts you cut off when your kids refuse to eat them.  Save them in a freezer bag in the fridge or freezer until you have enough to make homemade bread crumbs, croutons, or bread budding.  I save ALL my stale bread - french bread, sandwich bread and even buns.  Use the recipe HERE to make homemade croutons with herbs.

Tip #4 - Buy the WHOLE Chicken
When your grocery store has whole chickens on sale (under $1/lb is a decent price) take advantage of these savings.  Most grocery stores that have a meat/seafood counter will be happy to cut the chicken for you.  If you don't have this luxury go HERE for a quick and easy video on how to cut a chicken.   After you are done using your chicken, save the carcass and go HERE to make my homemade chicken stock.

Tip # 5 - Save at Ethnic Markets
Local ethnic grocery stores are a great way to save on your grocery bill.  I visit my local Asian market for sushi rice, soy sauce and miso soup that is significantly less expensive than my grocery stores.  Produce is usually less expensive at ethnic markets also.  I buy olive oil at World market since it runs about $ 5 - $7
on sale for a liter!
